The Alliance française, Jos was founded in 1992 as CFTD and as Alliance française de Jos in 2003. Its main activity is the teaching of French language to individuals desirous of adding a second foreign language into their linguistic baggage and making French count in their careers. AF Jos also promotes local cultures through French language and French language through local cultures. It is also saddled with the responsibility of training and retraining of French language teachers within the Northern region of Nigeria through the CFTD (Center for French Training and Documentation) in collaboration with the Plateau State Government and the French Embassy in Nigeria.
It is run by a local board of elected members who are Francophile or francophone and culture lovers. They, together with the director, oversee the affairs of the center.
It is located in the heart of the city and in a serene and beautifully decorated environment. Jos is the capital of Plateau State. Its geographical location facilitates the transition between the north-east and southern parts of Nigeria. The geographical location of Jos has long rendered it a commercial crossroad for both the North eastern and southern parts of the country. Jos is culturally blessed as it has cultural varieties as diverse as those of Berom, Izere, Buji, Jarawa, Miango and Hausa.
Its services include the teaching of French language to children, teenagers, Adults, business men/women, professionals of all categories.
